Kern —that part of a letter that projects in any direction beyond its own body, or over/under adjacent letters.
Kerning —removing space between letters.
Key —an identifying explanation of coded material, such as a color-coded map and its accompanying key indicating what each color stands for.
Keyboarding— entering data in a computer as opposed to typing a manuscript.
Keyline— essentially the same as a pasteup. The original composite art for offset printing.
Kill fee —money paid to a writer in compensation for time spent working on assignment on a piece the publisher decides not to accept.
