Nationwide marketing plan —a publisher’s total advertising and promotional plan to sell books. Also known as “marketing plan.”
Negative —a film replica of the original in which the gradations of light and dark are reversed.
Net receipts —moneys received by a publisher on a book’s sale after all discounts and returned copies have been deducted. Sometimes, per authors’ contracts, used to calculate royalties, rather than using the book’s retail (list) price.
News release —a one- or two-page story used for promotion.
Newsgroup —same as forum, an online discussion group.
Nonreturnable —merchandise that may not be returned for credit or a cash refund.
Notch binding —a binding process where the spines are not cut from the signatures but instead notches are cut down each spine and, with signatures still intact, the cover is glued on.
Nth name —randomly selected names in a mailing list—often every tenth—used to test the value of the total list. |
